Visión general

Christ's College es un oasis de tranquilidad en pleno corazón de la ciudad. En un instante, se encuentra en sus tranquilos jardines y, al otro, cruza la Gran Puerta, de 500 años de antigüedad, hacia el concurrido centro comercial. Christ's College es el lugar perfecto para visitantes de ocio o de negocios en Cambridge.

El alojamiento disponible acoge a estudiantes universitarios durante el período lectivo. Por lo tanto, las habitaciones no están equipadas como las de un hotel de cuatro estrellas, pero son limpias, cómodas y están ubicadas en una zona tranquila en el corazón de la universidad. Ofrecemos habitaciones estándar (con baño compartido) o con baño privado, ya sean individuales, dobles o con dos camas.

Todas las habitaciones están equipadas con menaje para preparar té y café, además de un paquete de bienvenida con artículos de aseo. También se proporcionan toallas. Todas las habitaciones reciben servicio de limpieza diario por parte de un camarero del College.

Historia

Christ's College was first established as God's-house in 1437 by William Byngham, a London parish priest, for training grammar schoolmasters. Shortly after receiving its Royal Licence from Henry VI in 1446, God's-house was forced to move from its original site, as this was needed for the King's new project (what was to become Kings’s College). God's-house moved to its present site in 1448 where it was re-founded in 1505 as Christ’s College by Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII. Lady Margaret has been honoured ever since as the Foundress.

First Court dates from the 15th century and is the oldest part of the College. The Master’s Lodge, Chapel and Hall are all found in First Court as are Charles Darwin’s rooms. Charles Darwin studied here between 1828 and 1831.

Comida y bebida

For those rates that include breakfast, it is served Monday to Sunday in the Upper Hall between 7.30 to 9.30am. Please note that not all room rates include breakfast, some are room only - please ensure you book the correct rate for your requirements.

Over the last two years, the College has successfully reduced packaging by bulk buying essentials and removing individual packets of cereal, jam and sauces from its dining halls. Guests now also have a fresh yoghurt bar where diners can make themselves bespoke yoghurt with additional accompaniments, giving greater choice and reducing landfill at the same time!

Terrenos y jardines

Christ’s College has extensive gardens laid out over four Courts. The Fellows’ Garden, which is open 5 days a week for most of the year, has beautiful herbaceous borders and is home to the famous Milton’s Mulberry Tree. There is also the Darwin Garden, created as part of the celebration of the bi-centenary of his birth, and which features a sculpture of a young Charles Darwin and also the Darwin Walk.

Whilst guests are most welcome to walk through the grounds of the College at all times, they are respectfully requested not to walk or sit on any of the lawn areas around the College grounds.

Should you need the use of an iron and ironing board during your stay, there is an ironing room in the P staircase laundry. There are also washing and drying machines available for use.

The Porters' Lodge has a few hairdryers that can be loaned for a £5.00 refundable deposit.

Internet access, including WIFI is available in all rooms. Rooms will also be provided with an ethernet cable, guests need to bring their own laptop. Details on how to connect to the internet are displayed in the bedroom.

A great experience. This room was at the top of a traditional staircase, very spacious with a comfortable bed and nice view. The shower was adequate though not exciting. The Buttery bar is a lovely place for a cocktail, and the Porters at the Lodge couldn't have been more helpful with storing luggage, sorting a room card that was troublesome, and letting us have sellotape etc. Christ's is very central and convenient but beautiful, and quiet. Recommend

This is the second time I’ve stayed here and is great value for money. The staff are always very helpful and lovely. The room is great for a nights stay in the centre of Cambridge for a single traveller. My only note to make is it’s a bit of a walk from entrance to the room and lots of steps to get to the room which carrying a case is a bit of a struggle. I couldn’t find a lift.

Wonderful stay in Cambridge at Christs College. Porters were very welcoming and friendly. Accommodation was very clean and comfortable and it was lovely to be in such beautiful surroundings. Breakfast was excellent and again the staff were efficient and friendly. Thank you

A very pleasant stay, en-suite shower room was a bit of a challenge but bed was comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as was the service from Alaric in the dining room, such a lovely guy, very welcoming and cheerful. Thank you Alaric.

Really lovely stay! The porters were very kind and informative. A special shout out to Abraham who served during breakfast the two mornings I was there and went above and beyond to help me as a coeliac. Would definitely stay again!

After 11pm a night Porter is on-site to deal with emergencies. The Porters will be pleased to store your baggage following check out whilst you have a last look around the City.

It is regretted there is NO parking at College.

On arrival please check-in at the Porters’ Lodge on St Andrews’ Street. Please show your booking confirmation to the Porter who will provide you with your room key, a map of the College and direct you to your room. Despite the term ‘Porter’, it is not part of a College Porter's duties to handle luggage; you must carry your own luggage to your room.

Also, on arrival at College, all guests will be requested to complete a Guest Registration Document (As required by the Immigration (Hotel Records) Order 1972). Guests will need to give their name, address and nationality. Non-UK guests will also be required the number and the place of issue of their passport as well as their next destination. These record must then be kept for 12 months.

The railway station is approximately a 20-minute walk, or there are various regular bus services which will drop you close to the College. There is also a taxi service available outside the station entrance. The bus station is also located within a few minutes walk of the College, and the National Express buses terminate on Parkside, which is a 5-minute walk to the College.

As the College is a place of study and many of the property's Fellows’ live and works on-site, guests are asked to respect their privacy and conduct themselves in a manner befitting a historic academic institution. All staff at Christ’s College are friendly and welcoming and guests are asked to treat them respectfully.
